While we are in lockdown we do have a huge, horse shaped gap in our days that is missing long days spent at the yard, riding lessons and pony cuddles. We are all spending more time indoors right now and staying safe, and if you are not then you are a key worker and we would like to send all our support and gratitude your way, you’re doing an amazing job – THANK YOU! But, for those of us that are staying home, I have put together the ultimate bundle of our horsey entertainment picks for you to enjoy. I spoke to all our RFEC team to find our favourite at-home picks, so, whether it’s something to read, watch or even play, I have you covered. Life on the Left Rein. Tina runs this account to share her adventures with her event horse, Banksy and miniature shetland, Berty (a.k.a Dinkle). Follow along for an honest insight into the exciting life of an equestrian and the high’s and low’s of an amateur British Eventer!

This Esme. By now, you have probably heard of Esme Higgs, a.k.a ThisEsme, with over 390k subscribers on YouTube, she is one of the biggest Equestrian YouTubers out there. Watch her exciting rides, tackroom tours and daily antics on her equally popular Instagram channel!

Megan Elphick (a.k.a Elphick Event Ponies). Based in Worcestershire, Megan is an amateur eventer who recently competed at Grassroots level at Badminton Horse Trials. We love watching her train her beautiful ponies with some great riding tips too!

Teddy the Shetland. How can you resist that cuddly face? No words are really needed for the cheeky sensation that is Teddy the Shetland. He will certainly make you smile!

Benjamin Atkinson (a.k.a Ben_Action Horses). This is a great account to follow for something really different. Get a behind the scenes look into Ben performing and training his stunt horses to the highest level, it’s truly amazing!


Free Rein. Teen drama following Zoe, a young girl from America and a mysterious horse form a close bond and achieve what everyone thinks they couldn’t. It might be ‘for teens’ but there is a lot of us who are big fans anyway (Abbey!)

Heartland. A real binge watch. Perfect for long days at home when we’re missing horses. There is 13 seasons so far, so make sure you have enough snacks!

Rock My Heart. A young girl with a dangerous heart condition finds herself bonding with an unruly stallion and trains to become an amateur jockey.

The Longest Ride. Cowboys, conflict and romance. We love this film. A true romance about the conflicting career paths between a former champion bull-rider and a budding artist the threatens to tear their relationship apart.

Spirit. A classic. Everyone needs to watch this at least twice. And if you already have, three times won’t hurt!


Secretariat. A firm favourite for us all and real tear-jerker, this is one of those need-to-watch films for all horsey fans.

Flicka. Another tear-jerker for anyone, as confirmed by Abbey who watched this the other day and definitely cried.

The Young Black Stallion. Film about the adventures of a young stallion and a girl, Neera, who has been separated from her father in the Arabian Desert.

Horse Sense. A Disney Channel original film about a spoilt, rich kid who goes to live on his family’s ranch in Montana. When the ranch comes into danger, the power of hard work and selflessness is quickly shared by all.


Equestrian Relief. Equestrian Relief has a whole host of courageous celebrities and riders taking on a series of challenges to raise money for NHS Charities Together.

This Esme. The ever popular YouTube channel that is ThisEsme. We get major tackroom envy in her tackroom tours and horsey shopping hauls!

Elphick.Event.Ponies. Watch more about Megan Elphick and her eventing journey with lots of fun videos, challenges and training tips on her channel.

Tiger Roll: Horse of a Lifetime. The new documentary of two-time Grand National winner and four-time winner at Cheltenham, Tiger Roll. With exclusive insight from trainer Gordon Elliott and other key figures, you need to watch the story of this incredible athlete.

Noelle Floyd. Indulge in the lavish luxury of top riders and producers at home and in the arena. Get a behind the scenes look into their yards and lives and enjoy exclusive interviews with the likes of Carl Hester and Alan Davies.

Your Horse. My personal favourite read. Your Horse is great for practical equestrian advice, interesting interviews and useful product reviews.

Horse and Rider. Monthly magazine jam-packed with riding tips, horse management and care advice and features top riders, vets and experts.

PONY Magazine. A great magazine for our younger riders, full of exciting riding and pony care tips and tricks.

Arena North-West. A FREE magazine about all things equestrian in and around the North West. You can normally find some copies on our Yard Office, but for now, you can enjoy them online.
